Moritz has raised $9 million to build an AI-native law firm. The round was oversubscribed and closed in four days.
Who invested
Y Combinator and 20VC led the round. Urban Innovation Fund and Inception Fund also participated.
Around twenty founders of billion-dollar companies invested alongside them, among them founders of Reddit, Instacart, Dropbox and Hugging Face. That mix was the point. These are people who have spent years on the receiving end of legal work: signing vendor paper under time pressure, closing rounds, negotiating across jurisdictions while trying to keep a company moving. They know where the current model fails because it has failed them.
Speaking to Sifted, our cofounder Pamir Ehsas put the ambition without hedging it: “We’re building the world’s largest global law firm from scratch”.
The problem we are funding against
In-house legal teams are asked to cover everything, everywhere, on the resources of a small department. Outside counsel is the release valve, and it is expensive and slow enough that teams ration it. So routine paper queues behind the work that shouts loudest. Contracts get signed that nobody senior has properly read. The close date slips. Nobody involved thinks this is a good system, and it persists anyway because the alternatives have been worse.
Our answer is not a tool that flags issues and hands the decision back to you. It is a law firm, with a law firm’s obligations, where AI workflows carry the volume and a licensed attorney reviews, negotiates and signs off the result. Same-day turnaround. A flat fee agreed before the work starts.
What the money is for
More lawyers. Senior lawyers from firms like Orrick, Cooley, Fenwick and Goodwin, so every matter has a named attorney accountable for it.
More jurisdictions. Companies do not stop at a border, and their counsel should not either. We work across the EU, US and Australia.
Better workflows. Our AI does about 80% of a matter today. Every point we add there is cost we can take out of the fee rather than margin we keep, which is why our prices fall as the technology gets cheaper.
If you want the detail, we have collected the coverage in Moritz in the news. If you want to put us to work, the rate table is public and the first matter does not need an onboarding project.

Why we quote a flat fee before we start
Hourly billing hands you the price only after you have committed. Here is what agreeing it first changes.

How a contract playbook actually works
The hard part of forty vendor agreements is not drafting any one of them. It is holding the same line across all forty.
